Love is Love.

Marriage equality affects me personally. I've stayed pretty quiet these last few months about this topic because I was afraid of being hurt.
My gorgeous fiancé and I had a baby in May, and I so badly just wanted to stay in the baby bubble and enjoy that time. I didn't want to watch the Rainbow Community being attacked and I didn't want to see the inevitable damage. Despite shielding myself, I still witnessed people within our own community attacking each other, and my heart broke a little. There is a lot of anger in me still towards the prime minister who felt it necessary to do this, to spend such a stupid amount of money on something which could have been resolved without such expense and without the pain.
I was blissfully unaware how many people in this country feel that my love for another person is not worthy of the same rights as theirs, but now I know exactly what percentage of the population voted No. I may never forgive the prime minister for forcing that knowledge on me, nor for the hurt he caused to our community. I know a lot of people voted yes. I know the laws have changed and I am very excited that many people who want to marry the person they love can now do so. I'm excited that one day I will get to stop calling my partner my fiancé and start calling her my wife.
So now with that chapter behind us, I have decided to sneak out of my baby bubble a little earlier than I had planned so that I can make engagement and wedding rings for those people who, like me, have been waiting for a law to change. I'm going to take on this work in case those people feel more comfortable having their wedding and engagement rings made by someone who is part of the Rainbow Community and who has also personally experienced just how meaningful this moment is.
In returning to work, I am really just doing what I love – which is making jewellery – for anyone, for any occasion. Making jewellery and running a small business for me is about quality of work, honesty, and creating unique designs for people who want to have something handmade by someone they can trust, by someone who's just trying to make a living, not by commercially taking advantage. It's about being able to employ local people in jobs they enjoy, being able to support other small businesses in my local community, and other artisans in our country.
Love is Love.
